More About This Recipe
- What snack is made of cereal, requires no milk, and is the most addictive thing you’ll eat this week? That’s right… Bacon Chex™ Mix!Not that normal Chex™ mix isn’t good and addictive, but a little bacon couldn’t hurt, right? The first step in making this delicious snack mix is making sure you have some very crispy bacon. Cooking the bacon on a rack allows the heat to circulate around the bacon and cooks it evenly and crisply. When it comes to Chex™ mix, Chex™ cereal is obviously an important ingredient. There are a bunch of different varieties of Chex™ and guess what? You can use any of them!Seriously, go crazy. For this version I used corn Chex™ and Whole Wheat Chex™, but any Chex™ under the sun will do the trick.Toss the cereal together with some pretzels and peanuts. I gave some loose guidelines for amounts in the recipe, but this isn’t a hard and fast thing. If you love pretzels, add more! Make it your own. Here’s the secret step that will send your Chex™ mix to the next level. Instead of just tossing the Chex™ mix in melted butter, drizzle a few reserved tablespoons of bacon grease over the Chex™ mix as well! The bacon grease will give the whole mix a subtle bacon flavor even if your particular handful doesn’t have bacon in it.I just stirred together my melted butter and bacon grease (it doesn’t take much) and drizzled it over my mix.I recommend eating a few handfuls of it while you can. Once you put it in a bowl, it’ll be gone quickly! If by some strange chance you do have leftovers, store it in the fridge (since it has bacon in it) and it’ll keep fine for about five days.
